I recently paid The Broad Museum and The 14th Factory a visit to see what they had to offer.I had my suspicions about what to expect when walking into the Broad. You know, typical fine art and contemporary art; nice things but definitely predictable. However, my first impression of the 14th Factory wasn't what you would expect. I felt like I was signing up to be scared or killed in the latest Saw Movie. I had to sign a waiver before entering stating that I was okay with being filmed and etc...apparently they are filming people within the museum for a documentary. Then the first works on display were very dark in nature. A single painting of a person holding back there face was the prelude to the deep dark hallway where spooky psychedelic sounds and a huge projection of a twirling body in a kaleidoscope fashion. The overall experience was great and not scary in the least. I later learned that the 14th Factory is essentially one giant metaphor for the artist, Simon Birch's life. I highly recommend going ASAP because they will only be open for about another month due to funding or something like that.
